Leading Yourself

Part of Education Leadership

Leading Self

All leadership starts with being able to lead oneself. Great leaders of people - the leaders whom people want to follow - are great leaders because they understand themselves and are able to engage themselves, choose their emotions and are aware of how their thoughts affect their mood, in the words of Daniel Goleman, they are "Emotionally Intelligent". If we understand how to lead ourselves we are much more likely to be able to lead other people - we would argue that it is hard to be a great leader of others if you can not lead yourself.
